Site News #12 4k UltraHD and massive streaming performance improvements

Hello,

Hopefully, you have noticed a significant improvement in video streaming for new uploads in the past few days!
A massive investment in our backend, which is not finished yet - should already show significant improvements.

The new standard for video encoding removed the lag or delay some of you might have experienced when accessing videos. It also improves the overall streaming quality and responsiveness when scrolling through a video. And with this solid background, we decided to enable FullHD and 4k as well.
Over the following weeks, we are planning to convert all WatchFighters content to the new standard and update it to FullHD/4k if possible.*

FullHD and 4k are free of charge for the channels and viewers - no extra costs are involved. But, of course, the uploaded video must fulfill the technical requirement** to encode it in FullHD or 4k. To support 4k videos the maximum file size for videos was doubled, to 10GB per file.

Additionally, Channels now have filter options in their wallet to find purchases of viewers or for specific videos.

In case of any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Best Regards,
WatchFighters

* Until all our content gets converted to our new streaming standard, older videos might still suffer some delay. In this case, please give your browser some time, and try again. The most straightforward way for the viewer to find out if the video is already converted is to look for the video quality selector in the bottom-right part. If you can choose the video's quality - which is normally based on your bandwidth, then the video is already converted.
Also, HD, FullHD, and 4k videos are marked in the video overview - if you see these icons, you can be sure that the streaming experience will be smooth.
If you uploaded an HD/4k video but you don't see the new icon yet, please wait: we are converting all videos in the background which will take a few weeks.

** There are a lot of marketing terms around 'HighDefinition Video', we use the technical specifications on WatchFighters:
HD which was until a few days ago our default is now extended up to 4k:

  • HD - HighDefinition= 720p
  • FHD - FullHD = 1080p
  • UHD - UltraHD or 4k = 2160p
