After the previous ordeal, FùYè slowly drifts back into consciousness, his vision sharpening to the soft glow of monitors surrounding him. He’s lying on a clinic bed, bare chest rising and falling beneath a web of attached electrodes tracking every beat of his recovering heart. Instead of fear, FùYè feels something unexpected – excitement. It all sends his pulse climbing.
Then he sees them – two gleaming defibrillator paddles resting right beside him. Curiosity consumes him. Temptation wins. With a reckless thrill, FùYè lifts the paddles, presses them firmly to his chest, and delivers a jolt. His body arches. His breath catches. The rush is intoxicating. So he shocks himself again and again.
However, the pleasure spirals into danger. The final jolt hits too deep – his racing heart stutters… then stops. Moments later, TíngHui returns and freezes at the sight of the motionless body. Shock turns to urgency. He tears the paddles away, climbs onto the bed, and begins powerful CPR, refusing to let FùYè slip away. Defibrillator shocks slam through the room once more – but this time, to save a life, not thrill it.
